The Main Camp
Unbelievable! Remarkable! One-of-a kind! All of these phrases have been used to describe the Main Camp at Sunalei Preserve when viewed for the first time. This five Bedroom, five full Bath, and two half Bath Adirondack lodge defines what North Carolina rustic architecture is all about. The combination of poplar bark shingles, the intricate twig and log accents, cedar shake roof, board and batten siding, and earth tone colors work together to create a masterpiece that blends with the environment and the surrounding acreage.
The floors, walls, and ceilings throughout the home are wood. Native woods of cherry, walnut, hickory, red and white oak, and pine have been used to create a warmth and personality that will prove timeless.
The stone work in the exterior pillars and foundation, as well as that found in the four stone fireplaces, is extraordinary. The rocks used in the stone work were found on the property. Local stone masons searched the grounds for the desired rocks, then shaped and fitted them to perfection truly creating works of art within and around the home.
The exterior of the home is enhanced by the many porches and decks. Four of the five Bedrooms have a covered balcony, and the Master Bedroom has two. A large open deck is accessed from the Great Room and Butler\'s Pantry. A patio area, both open and covered, is accessed from the Family Room, Exercise Room, and Guest Bedroom on the lower level. All of the decks, porches, and balconies have hand-made twig railings and cedar log posts. The twig work was completed by Lady Sticks and her fabulous team. The cedar logs and branches were hand peeled, fitted individually, and sealed to preserve their natural beauty.
The Kitchen is ideal for entertaining and large gatherings of family and friends. The painted cabinets are custom made using a triple process green over red. A large farm sinkand the counter tops are made of Vermont soap stone. There is a large center work island with a raised back. The island counter tops are soap stone and walnut. The stainless steel appliances are professional grade and will be a delight to those with culinary desires. Located off the Kitchen is a large Butler\'s Pantry with stainless steel counters, sink, second dishwasher, separate laundry room, and a large storage closet.
Located on the main floor is a special room known as "The Library." Activity in this room focuses either around the stone fireplace with hand carved mantel at one end or the antique English bar found at the other end. The room has large double hung windows on two full walls, and the views of the mountains add to the drama.
The Master Bedroom is located on the upper level and is accessed from a large open loft that overlooks the Great Room. The Bedroom is generous in size and features a large walk-in closet, two covered balconies, and a sumptuous Bath with claw-foot soaking tub and separate shower stall. The rustic Bathroom vanity with bark fronts is topped with white granite. Above are two mirrors surrounded by birch bark.
Located on the lower level of the home is a large Family Room. The room has one of the beautiful stone fireplaces with gas-logs, a large and inviting bar adorned by twig work, and a rustic entertainment center perfect for a large screen TV. An Exercise Room, Powder Room, and a Guest Bedroom with full Bath are also located on the lower level.
